REDMOND — Landon Moore and the Redmond boys golf team lit up the links with a 1-over-par 289, leaving the competition in their wake Friday afternoon at the High Desert Challenge.
Moore shot a 4-under-par 37-31—68 to take medalist honors in the five-team invitational at Eagle Crest’s Ridge Course. The Panther senior found his rhythm on the back nine, posting three birdies in a row on holes 11 through 13 before adding two more birdies on the 16th and 18th holes.
Moore was good, but the rest of the Redmond team proved to be on as well. All five Panther players carded scores below 80.
“It’s the lowest tournament score we’ve had in six years,” noted Redmond coach Ron Buerger.
Andy Rodby was only two strokes back from his teammate, carding a 70 on the par-72 course. Redmond’s Jared Lambert shot a 75, Mason Rodby a 76 and Colton Henshaw a 78.
“All five under 80 is a good sign,” Buerger added. “It shows consistency and that they’re hitting a good stride.”
Roseburg finished second with a score of 314, squeaking past Summit, whose Jordan Schiemer carded a team-best 75 to lead the Storm to third place (315)
Both Dylan Cramer and Jesse Heinly shot 77 for Summit. Roseburg’s top golfer was Brad Seehawer, who managed four birdies for a 1-over 73.
Bend’s Ryan Crownover posted a team-low 83, one shot ahead of teammate Carter McGowan’s 84. The Lava Bears (347) rounded out the tournament in fifth place behind fourth-place Barlow (321).
