Grandma’s Booty

When Linda Quon was a teenager, her grandfather sent her a box of his second wife’s costume jewelry. Quon loved the vintage pins, clip-ons and screw-back earrings, but she didn’t normally wear her jewelry that way.

By her 30s, Quon had started a hobby of re-creating vintage costume jewelry in a more contemporary look. She finds the colorful, funky and feminine pieces on eBay, in antique shops, at secondhand stores and at estate and garage sales.

She started out just giving the pieces to friends, but now sells Grandma’s Booty in boutiques, at craft fairs and at trunk shows throughout the region.

Shoppers can find the earrings, necklaces and pendants — which range in price from $28 to $48 — locally at Vanilla in The Old Mill District and Casarama on northeast Division Street in Bend.

Quon says she also does custom orders and is getting into “bridal booty,” for which she’ll do wedding-appropriate pieces and custom orders with jewelry from the bride’s family heirlooms. She also adds a little blue bead for “something old” and “something blue.” While the bridal booty is still in the planning stages, Quon estimates those pieces will cost $48 to $59.
