- Redmond High School’s Justine Callen pitches on Tuesday afternoon against West Linn.
For the second softball game in a row, Redmond needed one out to win but could not make the play. Sheldon of Eugene defeated the Panthers 14-11 in comeback fashion at Summit High School on Tuesday morning.
But later in the day, Redmond bounced back and beat West Linn, 4-1, to close out its Summit Spring Break Tournament on a winning note.
“We were two outs away from being 4-0,” said first-year Panther coach C.J. Johnson, whose team now stands at 2-2 on the season. “We couldn’t get a third out to save our lives. But it’s a good learning experience for the kids.”
Redmond led the Irish 11-10 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning before Sheldon scored four runs to win. Richelle Dodson hit three doubles in the game as part of the Panthers’ eight extra-base hits.
“We have a great team,” Johnson said. “We can really hit the ball.”
In its winning effort, Redmond took a 4-0 lead in the second inning and never looked back.
“That game was very refreshing,” Johnson said about the Panthers’ win. “We just kind relaxed and had fun.”
Justine Callen picked up the victory in the circle for Redmond, which plays host to North Salem on Tuesday to begin Central Valley Conference play.
