Dec. 21, 1922 – October 22, 2009
Bob passed away peacefully from cancer the morning of October 22, at Hospice House in Bend.
Bob was born on December 21, 1922, in Stanton, Texas. He enlisted in the Air Force at age 18, was promoted to the rank of 1st lieutenant at age 19. After completing basic training, he went to the University of Montana to go through ROTC. While there, he met and married Claire Criswell in 1944.
He joined the 10th Mountain Division in the Air Force before being sent to Italy during WWII. Upon returning, he and Claire settled in Helena, MT where Bob joined GMAC. He joined the banking world in 1954, which became his life-long career. He and Claire divorced in 1963, and Bob went to work for Crocker Bank whom he was with for 24 years.
In 1970, he met Marilyn Reimers whom he married in 1972. Bob and Marilyn moved to Tiburon, CA after their wedding and later to Novato where they lived until moving up to Bend in 1995. He remained with Crocker Bank until 1987, and joined West America Bank where he stayed until his retirement in 1992.
Bob was an avid golfer his entire life, and continued to be on the golf course until eight months before his passing. He was a member of the Marin Country Club in Novato, CA for many years, and later Awbrey Glen County Club in Bend. He and Marilyn were also skiers, and made yearly trips to Sun Valley until they discovered Mt. Bachelor in Bend. They bought a house 25 minutes from the mountain to be close during ski season. Bob also loved dachshunds, and had many dogs over the years. He dearly loved nature, especially trees and mountains, and loved living in Sunrise Village in Bend with its towering ponderosa pines.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Bend; his daughter, Marlene of Novato, CA; and his dogs, Remy and Autumn, who spent many days on Bobs hospital bed keeping him company.
A small private ceremony was held in Bobs memory on Saturday, October 24, at his residence.
