Outlaws remain on top of Sky-Em League

SISTERS — Poised for another league title, Sisters swept Junction City 25-13, 25-9, 25-8 on Saturday to remain the No. 1 team in Sky-Em League volleyball.
The home team came out and played with resolve, according to Sisters coach Diane Bremer, controlling the pace of play and setting the tone early with a decisive 25-13 game one win.
In game two, Chelsea Reifschneider took over serving with Sisters up 18-9 and served seven in a row to carry the Outlaws to victory.
Game three was more of the same, thanks to offensive and defensive help from Hannah Harrer, who chalked up 14 kills and eight blocks in the home win. Jessie Snow led Sisters with 21 digs and Haylee Schaab recorded 11 kills and six blocks.
Sisters (10-1 Sky-Em) faces Cottage Grove on Tuesday in its last league game of the season. A win on the road clinches the 2009 Sky-Em title and the league’s No. 1 seed for the Class 4A state playoffs.

Cowgirls third at West Linn tourney
WEST LINN — Hitting 96.5 percent of their serves, the Crook County Cowgirls tied for third at the West Linn Invitational with the host Lions. Crook County, which is tied for first in the Intermountain Conference standings with Summit, rolled through bracket play, defeating Lake Oswego (25-7, 25-15), Reynolds (25-15, 25-11) and Canby (25-15, 25-23) to advance to the tournament’s championship bracket. In bracket play the Cowgirls topped Gresham 21-25, 25-16, 25-6 in the quarterfinal round before falling to Central Catholic 25-20, 23-25, 15-7. Casey Loper led Crook County with 63 kills on the day. Makayla Lindburg added 35 kills. Braiden Johnston paced the Cowgirls at the service line, going 48 of 49. Crook County is back to IMC play on Monday with a match at Madras.

HERMISTON — The Lava Bears dropped their second match in Eastern Oregon in two days after losing to Pendleton on Friday. Paulina Zavala led Bend with seven kills and eight digs while Kylene Scott added six kills and eight digs. The loss drops Bend to 2-11 in Intermountain Conference play with one match remaining this season. The Bears host Madras on Wednesday in both teams’ final contest of the year.

La Pine 18-16-13
EUGENE — La Pine fell to 5-6 in the Sky-Em League after suffering a 25-18, 25-16, 25-13 loss to Marist. Kaylin Elms was 13-for-14 serving with 15 digs and two aces to lead the Hawks (5-8 overall). Meagan McReynolds dished 14 assists and Kassi Conditt recorded 10 kills for La Pine. The Hawks will finish the regular season on Tuesday when they host Elmira at 6:45 p.m.

GILCHRIST — The Grizzlies fell at home despite Jenny Scevers’ defensive effort. The sophomore logged six digs while teammate Kali Smith contributed three blocks and one dig. Gilchrist concludes Mountain Valley League play Monday, hosting North Lake.

PENDLETON — Dimitri Hagen scored a pair of scrappy goals to lift the visiting Lava Bears past Pendleton and closer to locking down one of four Intermountain Conference playoff spots with just one league game remaining. Hagen netted his first score in the 10th minute off an Austin Crook assist and his second in the 28th minute off a rebound. The Buckaroos put one in the 60th minute but otherwise were held scoreless. Bend (3-1-2 IMC, 7-3-2 overall) plays at Crook County on Thursday. With a win against the Cowboys, Bend all but assures itself a playoff spot.

HERMISTON — The Cowboys fell behind 4-0 in the first half and never seriously challenged the Bulldogs in their sixth Intermountain Conference loss of the season. Crook County is now 0-6 in league and 1-9 overall. The Cowboys end their season on Thursday with a home match against Bend High.

PRINEVILLE — Ashlyn Hanson put Crook County out in front in the 15th minute, bending her corner kick into the net for a 1-0 Cowgirls lead. Hermiston answered in the 30th minute and the teams remained locked in a 1-1 tie at halftime. The second half was a different story, as constant Bulldogs attacks resulted in four second-half goals for the visiting squad. The Cowgirls (1-5 IMC) are on the road Thursday for their last game of the season at Bend High.
