Rod was born in Bend, Oregon, on September 26, 1951, to Ruth and Kenneth Slack. Rod grew up on the family farm, attended the Opportunity School of Central Oregon, and relocated to Everett, Washington in 1983. Rod had a contagious smile and happy attitude. He greeted family and friends with his favorite motto ”Everyday’s a Holiday”. He loved all sports and participated in many Special Olympic sports. His passion was skiing; he was active in Skihawks and represented the State of Washington on Team USA at the 1993 World Winter Special Olympics Games in Salzburg/ Schiadming, Austria.
He is survived by two sisters and two brothers: Eva/Bill Marshall – Lynwood, WA (who took special care of him), Myrt Shaw – Canby, OR, Keith/Lori Slack – Canby, OR, and Gary/Carol Slack – Tacoma, WA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews (including great and great-great!).
A celebration of Rod’s life will be held Saturday, November 22, 2008, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Lynwood Elks, 6620 196th Street SW in Lynwood, WA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Skihawks Racing Team, 2834 24th Avenue West, Seattle, WA 98119.
A special thank you to Sunrise Services Community Living and the Providence Medical Center Hospital medical staff assigned to Rod. They provided assistance, counsel and guidance to Rods family during this difficult time.
