John ‘Jack’ Henry Lonien

John “Jack” Henry Lonien, of Bend, died Monday of natural causes. He was 81.

A recitation of the rosary will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Memorial Mass will follow at 11 a.m.

Mr. Lonien was born Sept. 26, 1926, in Aberdeen, S.D., the son of John and Anna (Galles) Lonien. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Eugene in 1943. He married Doris Lonien on May 28, 1948, in Eugene.

Mr. Lonien served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked as a supervising electrician. He was affiliated with St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the VFW and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers No. 280, and he was a past president of Opal Springs Water Co. He enjoyed his koi pond, horse racing, travel and spending time with family. He moved to Bend in 1957.

Survivors include his wife; five sons, Greg, of Guam, Andy, of Crooked River Ranch, and Steve, Daryl and Joe, all of Bend; a daughter, Bonnie Cooper, of Portland; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son and a brother.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Francis of Assisi building fund or Hospice House.

Autumn Funerals of Bend is in charge of arrangements.
