Bend runner competes at worlds in cross country

- Bend’s Max King finished 55th at the World Cross Country Championships.
EDINBURGH, Scotland — Max King of Bend ran to a 55th-place finish on Sunday at the 36th International Association of Athletics Federations World Cross Country Championships.
A total of 166 runners finished the 12-kilometer race.
King clocked a time of 37 minutes, 20 seconds.
Kenenisa Bekele of Ethiopia won the race in 34:38, Leonard Patrick Komon of Kenya was second (34:41) and Zersenay Tadese of Eritrea came in third (34:43).
King was the fifth American to cross the finish line out of nine U.S. runners.
Jorge Torres was the top American, finishing 19th in 36:03.
Tirunesh Dibaba of Ethiopia won the women’s 8-kilometer World Cross Country Championships on Sunday, with a time of 25:10.
