GALVESTON, Texas — The national death toll from Hurricane Ike has hit 70 after a Texas sheriff’s official said two bodies were found near where the storm came ashore.

A search team made the discovery Saturday on an island off the devastated resort area of Bolivar Peninsula.

Ike forced more than a million people to flee the Texas coast before it hit Sept. 13, causing flooding and deaths as far away as Pennsylvania.
