Storm’s Krull headed to final

BEAVERTON – Laura Krull of Summit won two matches Friday to advance to the singles final of the Class 5A state tennis championships at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center.
The No. 1-seeded Krull, a sophomore, beat Meagan Resecker of South Albany in the quarterfinals 6-2, 6-1, and then defeated No. 3-seed Yulia Magid of Liberty 7-5, 6-2 in the semifinals.
The wins put Krull into the championship match against No. 2 seed Allison Bostrom from Crescent Valley, who dominated both her matches Friday, scoring two 6-0, 6-0 victories. A win for Krull would make her the first ever singles state-champion from the Intermountain Conference.
Barb Sneckner of Mountain View and Skyler Nelson of Bend each grabbed two consolation wins Friday and will meet in the consolation championship match today. Sneckner defeated Abbey Koch of Cleveland 8-1 (pro set) and Sara Gregg of Willamette 8-5, while Nelson dominated her matches, beating Lauren Krueger of Cleveland and Safina Manze of Madison by 8-0 margins.
The Crook County doubles team of Molly Robinson and Krissi Kemper fell in a hard-fought three-set quarterfinal match against the No. 2 seeded team of Kody Jo Jaffarian and Steffie Ballman of Churchill, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
Hermiston’s doubles team of Richole and Rebecca Berger cruised through two matches Friday and, along with Krull in singles, will give the IMC girls an opportunity to sweep the Class 5A titles. They face Jaffarian and Ballman in the championship match.
In Class 6A competition, the Redmond doubles team of Amy Powell and Chelsea Gibbs lost 9-7 (pro set) in the consolation bracket to Mimi Johnson and Britta Berg-Johansen from West Salem.
