For those who have ever had trouble receiving KPOV 106.7 FM’s signal or couldn’t listen at work, your troubles are over if you have a computer: KPOV is now streaming on the Internet.
Because of the KPOV’s low-power, four-watt signal, its tower location on Awbrey Butte and area topography, many people couldn’t hear Bend’s ”listener-supporter, volunteer-powered” community radio station.
”We heard from a lot of local people who wanted to hear the station but couldn’t receive the signal. So we set a goal to be streaming by Jan. 1, 2007,” KPOV Board President Mike Riley said in a press release, which also touted the station as Bend’s first to stream.
To listen, visit the station’s Web site, www.kpov.org, and click on the ”Listen Now” button. The streaming broadcast also makes it possible to hear the station anywhere, if one has a computer with Internet access.
The station’s high-speed (96K) stream is hosted by www.ilovemywifi.com. The additional cost is about $1,500 per year. Riley hopes that better access to the broadcast signal will mean more listeners and increased financial support for the station.
