Roy Oliver Strickland
Dec. 21, 1920 — June 8, 2007
Roy Oliver Strickland, of Prineville, died Friday. He was 86.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today at Prineville Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at Westlawn Cemetery in Eugene.
Mr. Strickland was born Dec. 21, 1920, in Wendell, Idaho, to Bert and Myrtle (Garnett) Strickland. He married Cleta Freeman on May 16, 1942, in Gooding, Idaho.
Mr. Strickland served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and was honorably discharged in 1946. He operated a dairy farm. He later worked as a superintendent for Lane Plywood Mill in Eugene. He retired in 1982. He was a member of the High Desert Saddle Club and enjoyed animals and playing the harmonica.
Survivors include three sons, Zane, of Joseph, David, of Prine-ville, and Steve, of Carmichael, Calif.; a sister, Joy Hoover, of Emmett, Idaho; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers and two sisters.

Bessie Irene (Raines) Tittle
Nov. 1, 1914 — June 7, 2007
Bessie Irene (Raines) Tittle, of Redmond, died Thursday of natural causes. She was 92.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Deschutes Memorial Mausoleum Chapel. Graveside services will follow.
Mrs. Tittle was born Nov. 1, 1914, in Manchester, Ala., to Johnnie and Minnie Raines. She married Martin Tittle on Oct. 19, 1935, in Double Springs, Ala.
Mrs. Tittle worked for a potato warehouse. She enjoyed playing cards, camping and spending time with family. She moved to Central Oregon in 1940.
Survivors include two sons, Avery and Bill, both of Terrebonne; two daughters, Claudette Bidwell, of Redmond, and Judy Holt, of Salem; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, two brothers, two sisters and two great-grandchildren.
Deschutes Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Francis ‘Bud’ Alford
Dec. 3, 1927 — June 4, 2007
Francis “Bud” Alford, of Bend, died June 4. He was 79.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Prineville Funeral Home.
Mr. Alford was born Dec. 3, 1927, in St. Paul, Minn., to Stanley and Margaret (Caron) Alford. He married Rose Mobley in 1958. They later divorced.
Mr. Alford joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1952. He owned and operated Country Store in Prineville for many years. He later worked as a salesman for Rice Motors in Prineville, Hamilton Chevrolet in Redmond and Bob Thomas. He retired in 2000. He served as a president and chairman of the Prineville Chamber of Commerce in 1963. He was a member of Prineville Golf and Country Club and Widgi Creek Golf Club in Bend. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, skiing, racing motorcycles and golf.
Survivors include a son, Alan, of La Pine; a daughter, Debra Larson, of Hershey, Pa.; a sister, Darlene May, of Tillamook; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother.

Emily Elizabeth Reid
Feb. 12, 1909 — June 8, 2007
Emily Elizabeth Reid, of Bend, died Friday of natural causes. She was 98.
No services are planned at this time.
Ms. Reid was born Feb. 12, 1909, in Omaha, Neb., to Clement and Mary (Cooper) Patterson. She attended Riverside Junior College and received a bachelor’s degree in botany from the University of California, Berkeley. She married Walden Thompson in 1938.
Ms. Reid worked as a scientific illustrator for the department of botany and zoology at the University of California, Berkeley. In 1978, she served as the illustrator for the University of California, Berkeley, expedition to New Caledonia near France. She moved to Bend in 1998.
Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Spowart, of Bend.
She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
