PORTLAND – Tim Sundseth of Redmond has advanced to the quarterfinal round of match play at the Oregon Amateur golf tournament at Columbia Edgewater Country Club.
Sundseth won two matches in the men’s division on Thursday. The 2001 graduate of Redmond High School defeated Tim O’Neal of Camas, Wash., 4 and 3 in the morning round. Sundseth followed that victory with a 2 and 1 afternoon decision over Kevin Beavers of Portland. Sundseth is the only Central Oregon player to reach the tournament quarterfinals.
Also in men’s play on Thursday, Brandon Kearney and Scott Barton, both of Bend, were eliminated.
Kearney defeated Jordan Sweet of North Bend 2 and 1 in the morning round, but came up short in a 4 and 3 setback to Cody Upham of Vancouver, Wash., in his second match of the day. Barton fell 3 and 2 to Dustin Andres of Tualatin in his only match of the day.
In the women’s division, Natalie Weber of Bend was eliminated after dropping a tight 2 and 1 decision to Kristen Svicarovich of Hillsboro in the tournament’s round of 16 Thursday morning.
Both the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds in the men’s and women’s divisions of the Oregon Amateur are scheduled today. The 36-hole championship finals are slated for Saturday.
