Sunriver to host trail ride in September
All breeds and all riders are welcome at a recreational trail ride hosted by the Oregon Quarter Horse Association next month in Sunriver. The third annual OQHA Trail Ride is scheduled to make its 2007 stop at Sunriver Resort Equestrian Center on Sept. 22. However, the deadline to register for the event, which is limited to 75 riders, is Sept. 8.

The Sunriver ride is part of the national American Quarter Horse Associations Ride Program, which began in 1997 and each year hosts nearly 100 trail rides around the world, according to www.aqha.com. A portion of the proceeds from each ride benefits the American Quarter Horse Foundation and a local charity selected by the host affiliates. This years OQHA ride will raise funds for Healing Reins Therapeutic Riding Center in Bend.
The OQHA Trail Ride will last approximately two hours. A catered lunch, a silent auction and a poker table will also be included in the festivities.

Cowboy dressage expert to visit C.O.
A renowned horseman who specializes in cowboy-style dressage will be at Future Street Farm north of Bend to present a clinic Sept. 8-9. While the group lessons with clinician Eitan Beth-Halachmy are full, spots remain for auditors to attend the clinic.
According to clinic organizer Dagny Marks, Beth-Halachmy is a classically trained rider/trainer who combines the disciplines of both Western riding and dressage. He has produced world champion Western pleasure and performance horses and entertains worldwide on those same horses. In fall 2006, Beth-Halachmy and his horse Santa Fe Renegade performed at the World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany.

The fee to audit the Tumalo clinic is $20 per day, or $10 for a half-day starting at 1 p.m. Clinic hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The event also features an evening performance by Beth-Halachmy and Santa Fe Renegade on Saturday, Sept. 8. The performance starts at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

The La Pine Hoofbeats Club has disbanded, but its popular annual fall playday will go on. The La Pine Rodeo Association will host the 2007 all-comers playday scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 8, at the La Pine Rodeo Grounds.
Gaming-style events include pole bending, barrel racing, keyhole racing, team string and egg-in-spoon races. Riders will compete in age divisions ranging from 10 years and younger to 50 and older.
Registration for the playday will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, and from 8 to 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, at the La Pine Rodeo Grounds. Playday activities begin at 9 a.m. The entry fee to participate in all five games is $5 for youth rodeo association members and $15 for adult members. Add $5 for nonmembers. Helmets are required for riders younger than 18.
The La Pine Rodeo Grounds is located west of U.S. Highway 97 on Third Street.
