Hot Buttered Rum rolls back into town

The high-altitude acoustic music of Hot Buttered Rum returns to Bend on Saturday night for a show at the Domino Room.

It’s been about a year since the five-piece jamgrass band played in town; since that show last winter the Bay Area-based group has played all over the country, powered by its tour bus, which runs on recycled vegetable oil and biodiesel.

The bus has gotten HBR plenty of publicity, but so has the band’s blend of bluegrassy jams and honeyed harmonies. Its sophomore album, ”Well-Oiled Machine,” was released in February and featured the playing of bluegrass luminaries Mike Marshall, Darol Anger and Peter Rowan.

”(HBR’s) original songs are instantly familiar and inviting,” says the San Francisco Chronicle. ”Flute and clarinet set the band apart from the recent surplus of old-timey bands, but so does the simple fact of the band’s sheer, infectious buoyancy.”

String music nuts will be in heaven Saturday because opening for the Rum band is Bend’s own masters of Americana party music, the Moon Mountain Ramblers. If you love what Hot Buttered Rum does, don’t miss the Ramblers.

Doors to the Domino Room will open at 8 p.m., with the music set to start around 8:30 p.m.

Advance tickets cost $12 plus service charges at Ranch Records (389-6116), Boomtown (388-1800) and The Ticket Mill in the Old Mill District (318-5457); no service charges at Wall Street Guitars (617-9080), Silver Moon Brewing (388-8331), Artscape Northwest (330-6534) and Here Now Postal (318-8353). Tickets will also be sold for $15 at the door.
