MADRAS – Hot three-point shooting sparked Madras to a 107-69 rout of Mazama Friday night in a nonleague boys basketball game.
Shooting threes, said Madras coach Evan Brown, ”is our bread and butter.” That was a fact Madras made strikingly clear Friday night, draining a total of 20 treys. Of the 20, Derrick Metcalf was responsible for six, followed by Robert Main with four.
The Vikings couldn’t compete with Madras’ explosive offense and high pressure defense.
”We pressured them until they ran out of gas,” Brown explained. ”We play a fast game, running the floor and substituting every minute and a half. We play 10 players.”
Metcalf led the White Buffaloes’ scoring frenzy with 24 points, backed up by Main who had a season-high 22. Madras was able to create so many scoring opportunities in part to its 23-11 advantage in offense rebounds.
Friday night’s game was the second straight contest that Madras has scored 100 or more points.
The White Buffaloes improved to 5-1 overall.
Madras travels to Portland to face Madison Tuesday at 7 p.m.
