Dr. John tickets left

As of Thursday, there were a few tickets left for the Dr. John concert Thursday at Tower Theatre.

The legendary jazz pianist has a new album out called ”Mercernary,” a collection of songs written or popularized by Johnny Mercer, the Georgia-born singer and songwriter who had a string of hit singles in the 1940s.

Mercer is said to have written or co-written about 1,500 songs, including ”Personality,” ”Lazy Bones” and ”That Old Black Magic,” all of which are covered by Dr. John on ”Mercernary.”

More than just about any other musician, Dr. John (born Mac Rebennack Jr.) is associated with New Orleans. His rollicking piano style and weathered, soulful voice make him one of the most distinctive jazz musicians of the last half-century.

His show on Thursday begins at 7 p.m. at the Tower Theatre, located at 835 N.W. Wall St., in Bend. Reserved tickets have sold out, but general admission tickets are still available for $24 plus a $3.50 service charge through Boomtown (388-1800). The show is open to all ages.
