Laone ‘Penny’ Margaret Hammer

Laone ”Penny” Margaret Hammer, of Bend, died Tuesday. She was 85.

A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Niswonger-Reynolds Chapel in Bend.

Mrs. Hammer was born Aug. 10, 1921, in Silverton to Mark and Inez (Grace) Matheny. She married Virgil Hammer on Sept. 15, 1940, in Vancouver, Wash.

Mrs. Hammer worked for Greg’s Banner Bakery and later worked for Erickson’s supermarket. She retired from Payless Drug Store. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Bend and was active in the Camp Fire Girls. She enjoyed sewing, baking and jigsaw puzzles.

Survivors include two daughters, Genny Wachter, of Hubbard, and Pam Ristoff, of Bend; two sisters, Dorothy Greenshields, of Hesperia, Calif., and Phyllis Murphy, of Las Vegas; 14 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, a brother and a grandchild.
