Bend High scored two goals in the first two minutes then held on for a 2-1 win over Crook County in Intermountain Conference boys soccer action on Thursday at the 15th Street Field in Bend.
The Lava Bears remain undefeated on the season, improving to 4-0 in league play and 9-0-1 overall.
”I don’t think we finished on even 10 percent of our changes,” said Bend coach Nils Eriksson, who noted that his team hit the crossbar at least three times.
Drew Williams got things going in the first minute when he rebounded in a Zach Ybarra shot to give the Lava Bears a 1-0 lead.
Less than a minute later, Connor Mitchell scored off a Carl Hinchman assist to make it 2-0.
”We did some things right. We moved the ball well but we just couldn’t finish,” said Eriksson.
Henry Ambriz scored off a Richie Carrillo assist midway through the second half for Crook County (1-3 IMC, 6-4-1).
”We got some changes on goal late, but just couldn’t finish,” said Crook County coach John Ries. ”They had a lot of chances also.”
The Lava Bears have given up just seven goals in 10 games this season.
