A La Pine man was killed around 2:25 a.m. Tuesday when he was thrown from his car after crashing into a semitrailer on U.S. Highway 97 near La Pine, according to a release from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.

Bryce Douglas Jansen, 35, was killed after his car drifted over the center line for unknown reasons and crashed head-on into a semitrailer. Jansen was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, according to the release.

The driver of the semitrailer, Robert Brown, of Eugene, was wearing a seat belt and not injured in the accident, Sgt. Eric Utter, of the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office said.

Investigators do not believe alcohol was a factor in the accident, said Utter.

Jansen worked at Crown Pacific Ltd. in Gilcrest and had gotten off his shift about 15 minutes before the accident, said Office Manager Terri Anderson.

The highway was blocked for roughly 1 1/2 hours following the accident. Traffic was restricted to one lane for several hours after the highway reopened, the release reported.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
