Harry Alfred Canoy of Cottage Grove died Sunday of age-related causes. He was 79.

A visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Cottage Grove. Interment will take place at Lebanon IOOF Cemetery in Lebanon.

Mr. Canoy was born May 6, 1926, in Yakima, Wash., to Millard and Amy Jones. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a radar mechanic in high-altitude bombings. He graduated from Albany High School in 1947. He married Edith Braun on July 30, 1952, in Corvallis.

Mr. Canoy worked as a projectionist for the Varsity Theater in Corvallis, and later as the supervising electrician for Oregon State University. He later moved to Bend, where he owned and operated The Holiday Motel. He also worked as the supervising electrician for the Bend-La Pine School District. He retired in 1985.

Mr. Canoy was a member of the United Methodist Church in Cottage Grove. He was a philatelist and a member of the Greater Eugene Stamp Society. He enjoyed teaching children about stamp collecting and attending and showing stamps at regional and local shows. His other interests included gardening and the history of early England and the Civil War.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Roger of Eugene; a daughter, Penny Haider of Salem; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or United Methodist Church in Cottage Grove.
