Permits are required for parking in sno-park

Valid sno-park permits are required for anyone planning to park in a sno-park through April 30. Permits must be visibly displayed on a windshield to be valid.
Sno-park permits are available at the Department of Motor Vehicles offices, Forest Service offices, and various resorts, sporting goods stores – including the Powder House – and other retail outlets. Permits range in price depending on the type of permit being purchased.
An annual permit costs $15; a three-day permit costs $7; and a daily permit is $3. Additional service fees may be charged depending on where and who is issuing the permit – some agents are given permission to charge extra. Annual permits also are available through the mail courtesy of the DMV headquarters in Salem.
There are more than 100 winter recreational areas throughout Oregon, located on the passes and in most ski, snowmobile and snow play areas. The total revenue collected from the sale of sno-park permits will be used to pay for the snow plowing needs in the winter recreation parking areas, according to a press release from Oregon Department of Transportation.
Oregon will allow permits from Washington, California and Idaho as well, but it is required that the state of the license plate match the state where the permit was purchased.
This means that vehicles with Oregon license plates must have an Oregon permit to park in an Oregon sno-park. Washington, California and Idaho also will accept parking permits from Oregon.
Permits are required in areas posted with signs reading ”Winter Recreation Area.” Failure to have a valid sno-park permit could result in a fine of $30.
