Victory keeps Lava Bears undefeated in league

HERMISTON – Bend High improved to 5-0 in Intermountain Conference girls soccer action after defeating Hermiston 4-0 on Friday.
Kaitlyn Tebbs scored two goals and Rachel Harding had a goal and an assist for the Lava Bears (8-3-0 overall).
Harding opened the scoring in the 13th minute with an assist to Kohleen Ervin. Bend upped the lead to 2-0 seven minutes later when Tebbs scored off an assist by Becky Scholz. The advantage grew to 3-0 two minutes before halftime when Ali Friesen tallied off a pass from Kimber Mattox.
The only goal of the second half came from Tebbs off a pass from Harding with about 18 minutes remaining in the game.
Autumn Van Meter and Kelly Maloney combined for the shutout in goal.
”They played great,” Bend High coach Hector West said of his squad. ”They did exactly what they needed to do and did it well.”
Bend plays another league match today at Pendleton.

PENDLETON – Sarah Sorenson scored three goals, and Michelle Sorum and Hannah Winkler scored two apiece as the Panthers evened their IMC record at 2-2 with a lopsided road victory. Sorum scored both of her goals in the first half as Redmond (2-7-1 overall) took command. Chelsea Gibbs scored in the 32nd minute to give the Panthers a 4-0 halftime lead. Redmond plays at Hermiston today.

LA GRANDE – The White Buffaloes held the state-ranked Tigers scoreless in the second half, but not before giving up two goals in the opening half of a Special District 7 loss. ”We played a much better second half,” said Madras coach Phil Smith. ”They settled down and played better defense.” The White Buffaloes (2-4-1 league, 4-6-1 overall) were led on defense by goalkeeper Kaylee Ramey, who finished with 10 saves.

PRINEVILLE – The Cowgirls (0-4-1 IMC, 1-6-1 overall) were shut out at home in Intermountain Conference play by the Eagles. Dani Lichty scored a goal and picked up an assist and Meagan Clark scored the other two goals for the visiting Eagles.
