Cowgirls sweep Bears in three

PRINEVILLE – Bend High learned why Crook County is ranked No. 5 in the state in Class 4A volleyball, as the Cowgirls swept the Lava Bears 25-17, 25-14 and 25-10 in Intermountain Conference play on Tuesday night.
The first game was closer than the score indicated. Crook County (7-1 IMC) jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but squandered it with two serving errors, one hitting error and a blocked shot. The Cowgirls grabbed another lead, but Bend (0-10) came within one point, 15-14, before Crook County finally shut the door on any Lava Bear comeback.

The rest of the night belonged to the Cowgirls, who won the second and third games in relatively easy fashion.
Grace DeBoodt had 10 kills and added 11 digs and three blocks to lead Crook County. Kimber Duncan followed with nine kills, seven digs and four aces on nine-of-10 serving. Cayla Kiser finished the night serving 25 of 27 with four aces. She added seven digs.
Bend’s Chelsea Newton had three solo blocks and three assist blocks, and Alex Carney recorded four aces and seven digs for the Bears.
Bend hosts Summit Thursday night, while Crook County heads to The Dalles-Wahtonka and Hood River Valley for Friday matches.

The Cougars improved to 8-0 and remain atop the IMC after sweeping the Storm in three games at Mountain View High School. Rachel Verdoorn paced the Cougs with nine kills and 14 digs. Andee Hayward added 12 digs, and Kalah Heacock was 14 of 14 from the service line. Kaitlinn Moody was eight of nine from the service line with two aces for Summit (5-6 IMC). Mary Clare Adame posted a .273 hitting percentage with no errors, and Tricia Spencer and Mel Gunderson were praised by Storm coach J.J. Riley for their strong passing performance. Summit plays at Bend on Thursday, while Mountain View travels to Hermiston and Pendleton for Friday league matches.

SISTERS – The host Outlaws swept the visiting Indians in Capital Conference action. Sisters improved to 3-0 and Molalla fell to 0-3 in conference play. Kali Ulmer led the Outlaws with five aces and five kills, while Becky Bremer had four digs and kills. Kayla Krumvieda also recorded three kills and four aces. Sisters travels to Stayton on Thursday for a league match against the 12th-ranked Eagles. Both the Outlaws and Eagles are unbeaten in league play.
Creswell 22-25-25-18-15
La Pine 25-15-21-25-10
CRESWELL – The host Bulldogs prevailed in the marathon Sky-Em League match against the Hawks. La Pine coach Alice Zysett said Creswell was capitalizing on the Hawks’ mistakes and kept the ball in play, which wore down the La Pine team. Zysett praised her squad for showing heart and not giving up. Holly Russell led La Pine (3-4 Sky-Em) with 42 digs, 21 assists and 10 kills, while Danielle James had 23 digs. Meghan Poore added nine kills. The Hawks are home to host Elmira on Thursday evening to start the second half of league play.
No. 4 Valley Catholic 25-25-25
Madras 10-12-12
BEAVERTON – The state-ranked Valiants were just too much for the visiting White Buffaloes, who fell in three games, in Tri-Valley League play. ”Credit goes to Valley Catholic, they are one of the best teams in 3A,” said Madras coach Lori Stock. ”But the girls didn’t give up and played hard to the end.” Madras (0-7 TVL) will host Sherwood on Thursday.
