Central Oregon transfer stations offering free cleanup programs

Landfills and transfer stations across Central Oregon will offer free disposal of yard debris during upcoming weekends.

Stumps larger than 3 inches in diameter, sod, manure and lumber will not be picked up for free in landfills and stations in Bend, Redmond, Sisters, La Pine and Madras. They will be accepted, but regular rates will apply.

Free cleanup programs include:

* Knott Landfill, located at 61000 SE 27th St. in Bend. The landfill will receive debris for free from 7 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on the weekends of April 23-24 and April 30-May 1.

* Transfer stations in Redmond, Sisters and La Pine will accept debris from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on the weekend of May 7-8. The Negus Transfer Station is located at 2400 NE Maple in Redmond; the Northwest Transfer Station is located at 68200 Fryrear Road in Sisters and the Southwest Transfer Station is located at 54580 Hwy. 97 in La Pine.

* High Country Disposal in Redmond will provide free collection of yard debris, household waste and appliances the week of April 11-15. Collection is only for those who live inside the city’s urban growth boundary. Collection day will be the same day as regular garbage service. Residents should have materials set out by 6 a.m. Yard debris should be cut in 3-foot lengths and stacked; household waste should be bagged or placed in cans, and appliances (limit four per customer) should be emptied of food, water and clothing. Furniture, hazardous waste, chemicals, tires, wood stoves, televisions or toilets won’t be accepted.

* The Box Canyon Transfer Station in Madras will accept debris from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on the weekends of April 30-May 1 and May 7-8. The station is located on McTaggart Road.
