Gov. Ted Kulongoski is scheduled to visit Bend today to sign a bill that will create a task force on land-use planning, according to his staff.
”Deschutes is the fastest-growing county in Oregon and in counties that grow that fast, obviously, land use is a big issue,” said Holly Armstrong, a spokeswoman for Kulongoski.
Kulongoski will sign the bill at 10:15 a.m. at a ceremony at the Deschutes County Administration Building, according to Armstrong. The ceremony is open to the public.
Senate Bill 82 creates a 10-member task force on land-use planning. Members of the group will be appointed to four-year terms by the governor, the speaker of the House and the Senate president, according to the text of the bill.
The task force will be charged with assessing the effectiveness of Oregon’s land-use system, surveying residents and recommending legislation.
Kulongoski will appear in Bend as part of a one-day tour. He is scheduled to discuss transportation issues at the Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport at noon and to sign new legislation creating enterprise zones at 5 p.m. at Molecular Probes, a biotechnology company in Eugene.
