Robert Vernie Lewis of Spray died Monday of natural causes. He was 82.

No service is planned.

Mr. Lewis was born Sept. 2, 1921, in Bellaire, Ohio, to Robert and Edna (Lusher) Lewis. He grew up and attended schools in West Virginia and Ohio.

He served in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1945. He married Eileen Patterson on Nov. 27, 1946, in St. Clairsville, Ohio.

Mr. Lewis worked in the coal mines of Ohio before working as a pipe inspector for a steel mill. He retired in Quaker City, Ohio, and in 2001 moved to Spray.

Survivors include his daughter, Bobbie Daniels of Spray; a sister, Elizabeth Opsahl of Bel Air, Md., and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, a daughter, two brothers, a sister and his parents.
