A Central Oregon tradition for more than 35 years, the Skyliner’s Ski Swap returns this Saturday. The annual event at the Mount Bachelor Bus Barn at Columbia and Simpson Avenue in Bend, which benefits Mount Bachelor Ski Education Foundation’s scholarship program, runs from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The Skyliners Ski Swap is not only an opportunity to buy some gear at a reasonable price, but for many area snow-lovers, the swap is a celebration of the upcoming season and an arena to discuss season anticipation, ambitions and goals, says Chuck Kenlan, MBSEF Executive Director.
”Ski swaps are a rite of passage,” Kenlan said. ”You get so excited to go. I remember fall ski swaps as a time to see all my buddies and we’d get all excited about the season. The Skyliner’s Ski Swap has been going on so long it has become an institution.”
The ski swap will feature new and used Alpine and Nordic ski equipment, snowboard gear, clothing and winter hard goods. Admission is $3 per person or $6 for a family. During the swap, MBSEF athletes, coaches and volunteers will be available to help swap shoppers pick out suitable equipment.
Those who wish to consign equipment to be sold at the swap can drop off their goods at the Mount Bachelor Bus Barn at 115 SW Columbia on Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pick-up for gear that did not sell is Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon, also at the Bus Barn.
