Catherine Marie Penney

Sept. 14, 1920 – June 5, 2004

Catherine Marie Penney of Bellingham, Wash., died Saturday. She was 83.

Per her request, a private service was held.

Mrs. Penney was born Sept. 14, 1920, in Bellingham, Wash., to Herman and Nora Lausten.

She married Robert Penney in June of 1963 and they lived in Central Oregon shortly after their marriage.

Mrs. Penney was a seamstress and tailor and made dolls and donated them to abused children.

She was also an active member of the Eastern Star and Garden Club. She worked as a dental assistant in both Seattle and Bellingham for many years.

She enjoyed weight lifting, aerobics and jazzercise.

Survivors include her daughter Domina Howe of Racine, Wisc.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Dewey Edward Moss

Aug. 15, 1917 – June 5, 2004

Dewey Edward Moss of Bend died Saturday of natural causes. He was 86.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 20, at Hollinshead Barn in Bend.

Mr. Moss was born Aug. 15, 1917, in Cleburna County, Ark., to Albert and Laura (Dill) Moss. He moved to Oregon in his late teens and married Dorothy (Ulmer) Moss on Jan. 17, 1944, in Albany.

Mr. Moss worked as a core layer in the lumber industry in Lebanon until his retirement in 1979.

He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge where he taught new members memory work and conferred degrees. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, taking walks, going to garage sales, sharpening knives and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of Bend; three daughters, Judy Flaskerud of Longview, Wash., Betty Woods of Estacada and Patsy Smith of Bend; a brother, Bud of Lebanon; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and two brothers.

Tyyne Fanny’ Welty

April 27, 1915 – June 4, 2004

Tyyne ”Fanny” Welty of Bend died Friday. She was 89.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 9 at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

Mrs. Welty was born April 27, 1915, in Portland to Victor and Fanny (Haura) Welty. She grew up in Portland and graduated from Gresham High School in 1933.

She married Lois Welty on Feb. 14, 1936, in Vancouver, Wash.

Mrs. Welty was a homemaker.

Her interests including riding Indian Motorcycles, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her son, Tyrone of Prineville; a daughter, Thedra ”Ted” Shawver of Bend; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

William Ralph Looney

Sept. 28, 1934 – May 31, 2004

William Ralph Looney of Bend died May 31 of Parkinson’s disease. He was 69.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 11 at Niswonger, Reynolds Funeral Home in Bend.

Mr. Looney was born Sept. 28, 1934, in Reedville to Ralph and Marian Anderson. He was raised by Joe and Bertha Looney of Reedville who adopted him when he was 21.

He married Nancy Heinrich on Dec. 26, 1952, in Reedville.

Mr. Looney worked as a logger and owned and operated his own business.

He enjoyed fishing, watching auto racing, gun collecting and stock trading.

Mr. Looney was a member of the Associated Oregon Loggers, the Eagles and the Elks.

Survivors include his three sons, Terry and Robert, both of Bend, and Ronald of Idaho Falls, Idaho; a daughter, Sheryl Selee of Turlock, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife.

Memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson’s Disease organization or a local hospice.

Virginia E. Wakefield

Sept. 3, 1918 – June 5, 2004

Virginia E. Wakefield of Redmond died Saturday of natural causes. She was 85.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 10, at Niswonger, Reynolds Funeral Home – Redmond Chapel.

Mrs. Wakefield was born Sept. 3, 1918, in Sisters to George and Tillie (Davidson) Wilson. She graduated from high school in 1936 and worked at the Pine Tavern.

She married George Wakefield in 1938.

Mrs. Wakefield was a homemaker and enjoyed traveling, fishing, bowling, golfing, and knitting. She also enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include her two sons, Tim of Crescent Lake and Tom of Midvale, Idaho; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a brother and a grandchild.

Robert. L. Beaubien

Dec. 19, 1907 – May 31, 2004

Robert L. Beaubien of Redmond died May 31. He was 96.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 12 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Howell, Mich.

Mr. Beaubien was born Dec. 19, 1907, in Old Port, Mich. to Samuel and Alice (Shock) Beaubien.

He married Bonnie Jones on Jan. 25, 1928.

Mr. Beaubien was a tool and die maker. He later worked as a landscaper.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Howell, Mich., and attended St. Thomas Catholic Church in Redmond.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Harold of Redmond, Carl of Show Low, Ariz., and Will of East Tawas, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
