Lorna Catherine (Cecil) Larsen

Sept. 23, 1917 – March 13, 2003

Lorna Catherine (Cecil) Larsen of Bend died Thursday in Portland. She was 85.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at New Hope Evangelic Church. Pastor Randy Meyers will officiate.

Mrs. Larsen was born on Sept. 23, 1917, in Buxton. She moved to Bend when she was 3 years old. She graduated from Bend High School in 1933. Mrs. Larsen married Robert Cecil in 1940.

She worked as a secretary, real estate broker and insurance agency owner for many years. She married Thomas Larsen on June 29, 1985, in Klamath Falls.

Mrs. Larsen was affiliated with the New Hope Church, the Bend BPOE and the Deschutes Pioneer Association.

She enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, gardening and being with her family.

Survivors include her two sons, Gary Cecil of Crooked River Ranch and Bob Cecil of Portland; one stepson, Kim Larsen of Bend; one sister, Vivienne Prophet of Bend; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents and a grandchild.

Arthur Dramen

June 11, 1932 – March 11, 2003

Arthur Dramen of Bend died March 11 of natural causes. He was 70.

A memorial service will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Thursday at the BPOE Elks Lodge No. 1371.

Mr. Dramen was born on June 11, 1932, in Brooklyn, New York.

He served in the Army during World War II.

He owned and operated The Vision Center in Redmond.

Mr. Dramen was affiliated with the Eagles Lodge, Bend Golf Club, and BPOE Elks Lodge No. 1371.

He enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing, skiing and the outdoors.

Survivors include his three sons, Mark of Bend, Gordon of Buffalo, Minn., and Brian of Springfield; one daughter, Cheryl Castillo of Panama City, Panama; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Oregon Hospice.

June T. Flynn

Jan. 3, 1915 – March 13, 2003

June T. Flynn of Prineville died Thursday of natural causes. She was 88.

Survivors include her son Roger of Leavenworth, Wash.; one sister, Ruth McKenzie of Prineville; two grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Kathleen Louise Havens

Oct. 13, 1934 – March 14, 2003

Kathleen Louise Havens of Redmond died Friday of cancer. She was 68.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Redmond Nazarene Church.

Mrs. Havens was born on Oct. 13, 1934, in Salinas, Calif., to Theodore and Aileen (Smith) Hall. She went to school in Seaside and Monterey, Calif. She married Gregory Havens on Oct. 9, 1954, in Seaside, Calif.

She worked for Tektronix in Beaverton and Redmond, retiring in 1997 after 29 years.

She was affiliated with Redmond Nazarene Church, Redmond Saddle Club and the Pregnancy Crisis Center.

She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, reading, camping and traveling.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Casey Havens of Hawaii; one daughter, Theresa Meinert of Redmond; one sister, Nay Grigone of Warrenton, Mo.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and six siblings.

Jessie Fay Whitten

April 17, 1919 – March 15, 2003

Jessie Fay Whitten of Redmond died Saturday of natural causes. She was 83.

A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Autumn Funerals in Redmond. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Highland Baptist Church in Redmond. Interment will follow the funeral service at Redmond Memorial Cemetery. A fellowship time will follow the funeral service.

Mrs. Whitten was born April 17, 1919, in Payson, Utah, to Henry and Opal (Westfall) Binning. She was raised in Pinedale, Wyo., and San Pedro, Calif. She married Eddie Whitten on Sept. 30, 1944, in Salt Lake City.

She worked at the Senior Center in downtown Redmond for five years. She also worked in the hotel industry in housekeeping for over 20 years.

Mrs. Whitten lived in Central Oregon in the 1940s before moving to Washington, Wyoming and Arizona. She moved to Redmond in 1985.

She enjoyed her family, her church and reading the Bible. She liked to play pinochle and dice games. She also enjoyed dancing and country and western music.

Survivors include her son Eddie of Boise, Idaho; four daughters, Shirley Carter, Patsy Bulkley and Laretta Allen, all of Redmond and Opal Eikenbary of Cadiz, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Mabel Margaret Foss

Jan. 22, 1911 – March 8, 2003

Mabel Margaret Foss of Walla, Walla, Wash., died March 8. She was 92.

A private service will be held.

Mrs. Foss was born Jan. 22, 1911, in Pomeroy, Wash., to Roy and Anna (Landkammer) Boardman. She moved to Bend in 1912 and attended Young School and Bend public schools. She married Theodore Foss in Bend.

She graduated from Central Oregon Community College’s nursing program in 1957. Mrs. Foss worked as a nurse at St. Charles Hosptial until her retirement.

Mrs. Foss was affiliated with St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

She enjoyed the outdoors and making hooked rugs.

Survivors include her two sisters, Laurene Boardman and Wanda Truett, both of Bend; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons and a grandchild.

Gladden Cheryl Woolfolk

Sept. 13, 1916 – March 10, 2003

Gladden Cheryl Woolfolk of Madras died March 10 of natural causes. She was 86.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Woolfolk was born Sept. 13, 1916, in Perris Valley, Calif., to Maurice and Lillian (Warr) Pryer. She attended school in Riverside, Calif. She studied paleontology in junior college. She married Willard Woolfolk in 1936 in Riverside, Calif.

She appeared in the silent ”Our Gang” movies as a small child. At age 10 she won a bronze medal for interpretive ballet at a Southern California invitational competition and at age 12 she taught ballet.

Mrs. Woolfolk was a homemaker and also worked as a temporary secretary.

She was affiliated with the San Diego Mineral and Gem Society and Living Hope Christian Center in Madras. She volunteered as a hospital Pink Lady.

Mrs. Woolfolk was a silversmith and enjoyed working with gems and stones. She knew fossil identification and judged rock and mineral shows in California.

Survivors include her son Walter of Cincinnati; one daughter, Cheryl Cotter of Madras; one brother, Sterling Warr-Pryer of Grass Valley, Calif.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a son.

Ruth L. Stacy

Jan. 19, 1916 – March 16, 2003

Ruth L. Stacy of Redmond died Sunday of natural causes. She was 87.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Juniper Haven Cemetery.

Mrs. Stacy was born Jan. 19, 1916, in Eugene to Hershal and Lottie (Gross) Garvin. She married Ed Stacy on Oct. 14, 1942, in Emmitt, Idaho.

She worked at Cheft Francisco cannery in Eugene. She retired in 1978 and moved to Prineville.

Mrs. Stacy enjoyed hunting, fishing and handiwork. She liked to crochet, knit and make doilies. She was an award-winning dollmaker. She also enjoyed china, glassware, coins and guns.

Survivors include her son Ed of Prineville; two stepsons, Floyd and Scott, both of Bend; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and a sister. Prineville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Wayland August Welden

Nov. 14, 1914 – March 15, 2003

Wayland August Welden of Redmond died Saturday of natural causes. He was 88.

A private service will be held.

Mr. Welden was born Nov. 14, 1914, in Little Rock, Ark., to Jeffery and Lona (Edmundson) Welden. He married Bertha Leach on Jan. 22, 1946, in Reedsport.

He was a miner and a millworker.

Mr. Welden enjoyed rockhounding, making jewelry, astronomy, inventing, carpentry and painting.

Survivors include his son Steven of Redmond; one sister, Vangie Ball of Weiser, Idaho; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a brother and his grandparents. Autumn Funerals is in charge of arrangements.

Jerrel Dean Allen

July 24, 1916 – March 16, 2003

Jerrel Dean Allen of Bend died Sunday. He was 86.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Cemetery in Bend.

Mr. Allen was born July 24, 1916, in Gainesville, Texas to Hollis and Fannie (Newton) Allen. He married Sarah Hipp in 1940 in Tulare, Calif.

He was affiliated with the Eagles Lodge in Bend.

Mr. Allen enjoyed traveling.

He moved to Bend in 1982.

Survivors include his two sons, Ron and Douglas, both of Bend; a daughter, Gloria Barron of Red Bluff, Calif.; a sister, Pauline Smith of Modesto, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Robert Bob’ Garth Summers

Feb. 7, 1930 – March 15, 2003

Robert ”Bob” Garth Summers of Bend died Saturday. He was 73.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Pilot Butte Cemetery.

Mr. Summers was born Feb. 7, 1930, in Paris, Oregon, to Elmo and Thelma (Pooler) Summers. He married Barbara Nelson on Sept. 28, 1949, in Cottage Grove.

He served in the Army as a corporal from 1952 to 1954.

Mr. Summers worked for Weyerhaeuser before moving to Bend in 1967. He was a logger in Central Oregon until he retired in 1989.

He enjoyed his family. He loved to read, travel, hunt, fish and camp. He also enjoyed going crabbing on the coast.

Survivors include his wife of Bend; a son, Jeff of Redmond; one daughter, Linda Kerr of Powell Butte; two brothers, Jack of Cottage Grove and David; two sisters, Kathy Nikirk of Emmet, Idaho, and Sara Ashley of Siletz; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and four sisters.
