Hazel Pearl Fitch
Aug. 29, 1907 – Feb. 28, 2003
Hazel Pearl Fitch of Vancouver, Wash., died Feb. 28 of natural causes. She was 95.
A graveside service was held.
Mrs. Fitch was born Aug. 29, 1907, in Oak, Neb., to James and Mae Snyder. She married Harlan Fitch in 1957 in Winnemucca, Nev.
She moved to Bend in 1934 and worked as a plant starter at greenhouses in the area. She moved to Eugene in 1984 and then to Vancouver in 1996.
Mrs. Fitch was affiliated with the First Baptist Church in Bend.
She enjoyed life and loved to fish.
Survivors include her two daughters, Berna Wood of Vancouver, Wash., and Wanda Thomas of Portland; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband.

Jessie Wilma Snell Beard
Sept. 9, 1910 – March 1, 2003
Jessie Wilma Snell Beard of Redmond died Saturday of natural causes. She was 92.
A private service will be held.
Mrs. Beard was born Sept. 9, 1910, in Glendale, Calif., to George and Marie (Bick) Heminger. She married James Snell.
She was a nurse.
Mrs. Beard enjoyed fishing, playing bingo and cooking.
Survivors include her son, Harold Banks of Pahrump, Nev.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, a brother and a sister.

Marie Diane Edwards
June 29, 1954 – March 1, 2003
Marie Diane Edwards of Prineville died Saturday after a long illness. She was 48.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Prineville Funeral Home.
Mrs. Edwards was born June 29, 1954, in Astoria to Roy and Marjorie (Fudge) Wilson. She attended school in Prineville. She married Gary Budine.
She worked as a clerk at Wal-Mart in St. Joseph’s, Mo., and at several restaurants in Prineville.
Mrs. Edwards was affiliated with the Red Cross in St. Joseph’s.
Her hobbies included collecting ceramic pigs and stuffed animals. She enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren. Mrs. Edwards also enjoyed playing cards on riverboats on the Missouri River.
Survivors include her son David Budine of St. Joseph’s, Mo.; one daughter, Rena McCoy of Agency, Mo.; her mother, Marjorie Prieto of Prineville; three brothers, James Wilson of Prineville, John Wilson of Estacada and Jeff Land of Colton; three sisters, Susan Robinson of Prineville, Elizabeth Montgomery of Redmond and Philamena Prieto of Redmond; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, a sister and her grandfather.

Alice M. Waer
June 10, 1915 – March 4, 2003
Alice M. Waer of Bend died Tuesday of natural causes. She was 87.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Pilot Butte Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. March 15 at the First Baptist Church in Bend.
Miss Waer was born June 10, 1915, in Newark, N.J., to George and Ida Mae (Chapman) Waer.
She was an accountant for General Electric in California and New Jersey. After her retirement in 1980 she earned an associate’s degree in child development and pursued a second career. She retired again in the 1990s.
Miss Waer was affiliated with the First Baptist Church in Bend.
She enjoyed cooking, sewing and children. She also enjoyed her family and practicing her faith.
Survivors include her brother Robert Waer of Bend.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.

Dave Kelly Greaves
June 22, 1952 – March 2, 2003
Dave Kelly Greaves of Redmond died Sunday of a heart condition. He was 50.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Redmond Christian Church. Pastor Travis Campbell will officiate. A memorial service will be held next week in Marysville, Wash.
Mr. Greaves was born June 22, 1952, in Everett, Wash., to Richard Sr. and Barbara (Bacon) Greaves. He graduated from high school in Marysville, Wash. He married Linda Morton on June 21, 1976, in Greece.
He served in the Navy during the Vietnam and Persian Gulf wars. Mr. Greaves received the Bronze Star with Valor for his service in Desert Storm. He retired from the Navy after 22 years.
Mr. Greaves was a journeyman pipefitter with Knight Mechanical. He was also a certified Orvis flyfishing guide. He worked for Deschutes River Outfitters and later Cascade Guides and Outfitters.
He was affiliated with Smith Rock Community Church in Terrebonne.
Mr. Greaves enjoyed his faith and family. He also enjoyed his hunting dogs and the outdoors.
Survivors include his wife of Redmond; one son, Jay Nelson of Marysville; his father of Marysville; two brothers Richard Jr. of Shelton, Wash., and William of Marysville; two sisters, Andrea Hudson of Marysville and Jackie Warren of Sedro-Woolley, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his mother.

Ashley Nicole Baptista
Feb. 18, 1983 – March 1, 2003
Ashley Nicole Baptista of Bend died Saturday. She was 20.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Bend.
Miss Baptista was born Feb. 18, 1983, in Bend to Chris and Paula Baptista. She graduated with honors from Bend Senior High School in 2000. She graduated from Phagan’s Central Oregon Beauty College in 2002.
She worked at Just the Right Touch Salon as a cosmetologist and hair and nail technician.
Miss Baptista enjoyed her family, friends and music. She also enjoyed her profession.
Survivors include her fiance, Mark Brown; her parents of Bend; two brothers, Jesse and Vincent; grandfathers, Manuel Baptista and Jack Curtis both of Bend; grandmothers, Sylvia Leetch Pieraff and Dora Mae Stubber, both of Bend, and Theresa Cooper of Albuquerque, N.M., great-grandparents, Manuel and Mary Baptista of Fremont, Calif., and Reeta Delano of Redmond.
