Bulletin staff report

High Desert BMX in Bend and Smith Rock BMX in Redmond will host their biggest event of the year this weekend: the Race for Life.

Several hundred bicycle motocross racers from Oregon, Idaho, California and Washington are expected to compete.

The Race for Life proceeds benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America.

On Saturday, High Desert BMX will host its Race for Life at the Big Sky Sports Complex east of Bend. Registration will be from noon to 1 p.m., with races to begin shortly after.

Smith Rock BMX will host its Race for Life on Sunday at High Desert Sports Complex in Redmond, with registration from 6 to 7 p.m. Riders will race under the lights.

Cost for both races is $10, and kids and adults of all ages are welcome. Unlike any other American Bicycle Association Race, participants do not need to be ABA members to take part in a Race for Life event.

Any bike without a kick stand, chain guard or reflectors can be used. All riders must wear helmets, long-sleeve shirts and pants.

Racing classes are formed for all ages and skill levels.

The weekend of racing begins tonight at Smith Rock BMX with a single point race. Registration is from 6 to 7 p.m., and riders must be AMA members. Cost is $8.

Other single point races for ABA members (all $8) will be Saturday night at Smith Rock BMX (registration from 6 to 7 p.m.), Sunday at High Desert BMX (registration form noon to 1 p.m.), and Monday at High Desert BMX (registration from 9 to 10 a.m.).
