Randy Lee Wasson
June 14, 1952 – May 1, 2002
Randy Lee Wasson of Bend died Wednesday of natural causes. He was 49.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at his home, 1063 NE 10th St. in Bend.
Mr. Wasson was born July 14, 1952, in McMinnville to Basil and Marian Wasson.
He moved to Bend in 1972. He owned and operated Wasson Construction.
Mr. Wasson enjoyed fishing, duck hunting and his two Labrador Retriever dogs.
Survivors include his fiancee, Maryann Elliott of Bend; two sons, Garrett and Matthew, both of Bend; two daughters, Saralee Elliott and Lisa Klein, both of Bend; parents of Bend; a brother; three sisters; and three grandchildren.

Vivian Maurine (Maker) Pilcher
May 11, 1912 – April 29, 2002
Vivian Maurine (Maker) Pilcher of Bend died Monday of natural causes. She was 89.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. May 11 at Aspen Ridge Retirement Center in Bend.

Martha Evelyn (Ihsen) Stranahan
July 10, 1916 – April 26, 2002
Martha Evelyn (Ihsen) Stranahan of Redmond died Friday of natural causes. She was 85.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Redmond Senior Center.
Mrs. Stranahan was born July 10, 1916, in Pittsburgh. She graduated from Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa., in 1937 with bachelor’s degrees in English and journalism. She married Chapman ”Gene” Stranahan in 1940.
She moved to Bend in March 1946 and Redmond in July 1951. She worked as a journalist and covered Central Oregon for The Oregonian and Oregon Journal. She also worked as a reporter for The Bulletin, where she covered Redmond. She then wrote for The Redmond Spokesman as a full-time reporter and a free-lancer for 35 years.
She also wrote for Central Electric Cooperative’s Ruralite magazine for 25 years and for the Central Oregon Rancher and OSU Extension Service for several years.
Mrs. Stranahan was a member of the American Association of University Women and local book clubs. She was a volunteer with the SMART Reading program. She enjoyed golfing, watching baseball, birds, bridge, history, politics, writing and flowers.
Survivors include her three sons, Chapman of Lafayette, Calif., David of Bend and Barry of Redmond; a sister, Wilma of Eugene; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Hospice of Redmond, Hospice of Bend-La Pine, the American Red Cross or Humane Society of Redmond.

Dan O. Marchant
Dec. 12, 1910 – May 1, 2002
Dan O. Marchant of Bend died Wednesday of natural causes. He was 91.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Greenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Marchant was born Dec. 12, 1910, in Canadian, Okla. He married Jewel Allen in 1932, in Sand Springs, Okla.
He moved to Bend from Northern California in 1973.
Mr. Marchant was a former member of the Odd Fellows in Bixby, Okla. He enjoyed playing pool, fishing, music, gardening, spending time with his family and going to the Bend Senior Center.
Survivors include his son, Bill of La Pine; three daughters, Mary Curtiss of Bend, Linda Andreasen of Sugar City, Idaho, and Peggy Sebastian of San Diego; a brother, Fred of Oklahoma; and a sister, Imadean Cordray of Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his wife and numerous siblings.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Bend-La Pine.

William A. Grimsley
March 30, 1937 – April 30, 2002
William A. Grimsley of Redmond died Tuesday of natural causes. He was 65.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Redmond.
Mr. Grimsley was born March 30, 1937, in Portland. He married Esther Holloway on July 2, 1974, in Roseburg.
He served in the Navy.
Mr. Grimsley worked as a greenchain operator in the timber industry.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed deer hunting.
Survivors include his wife of Redmond; a daughter, Brenda Lee of Redmond; mother, Bea of Bend; and a sister, Lliane New of Tigard.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Foundation.

Beatriz Bea’ (McKay) Barger
Nov. 17, 1925 – May 1, 2002
Beatriz ”Bea” (McKay) Barger of Bend died Wednesday of natural causes. She was 76.
A private service was held.
Mrs. Barger was born Nov. 17, 1925, in Panama City, Panama. She married Rodney Barger in October 1948 in Balboa, Canal Zone.
She was a homemaker. She moved to Bend in 1989.
Mrs. Barger enjoyed reading, crocheting, dancing, puzzles, music, spending time with her family and her dog, Pee Wee.
Survivors include her husband of Bend; three sons, Tommy of Gresham, Ronnie of Seattle and Raymond Manzanares Amato of Indianapolis; two daughters, Yvonne Couch of Ontario, Calif., and Lucia Isabel Witt of Eagle River, Alaska; and a sister, Vicky Welborn of Indianapolis.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Hospice of Bend-La Pine.

Ethel Joan (Zabresky) Ward
Dec. 30, 1932 – April 25, 2002
Ethel Joan (Zabresky) Ward of Bend died April 25 of natural causes. She was 69.
A private service will be held.
Mrs. Ward was born Dec. 30, 1932, in Chicago. She married Walter Ward.
She was a homemaker. She moved to Bend in 1994.
Mrs. Ward enjoyed arts and crafts and doll making.
Survivors include her four sons, Gary Burns, Bill Burns, Ron Burns and Robert Burns; two daughters, Sandy Mckie and Darlynn Weelmen; two brothers, Richard and William; two sisters, Carol and Cookie; and 10 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and granddaughter.
