Hazel E. (Eaton) Beeson of Madras died Sunday of natural causes. She was 76.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at First Christian Church in Madras.

Mrs. Beeson was born Oct. 2, 1924, in Eugene to Eugene and Edith Eaton. She married Connie Beeson on May 2, 1988, in Bull Head City, Ariz.

She was the owner and operator of Hazel Dress Shop and Sign Crafts.

Mrs. Beeson was affiliated with the First Christian Church. She was a member of the Madras Elks Lodge. She enjoyed camping, gardening, hunting, fishing and sewing.

Survivors include her husband, who lives in Madras; one daughter, Sharon Raske, of Bend; one sister, Patricia McIlwaine; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. View Hospice.

VanNoy

Edna E. (Watts) VanNoy of Madras died Monday of natural causes. She was 95.

A graveside service and burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Mt. Jefferson Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the First Christian Church in Madras.

Mrs. VanNoy was born Aug. 22, 1906, in Madras to John and Lillian (Ramsey) Watts. She married Harl VanNoy on June 27, 1937, in Portland.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. VanNoy was affiliated with the First Christian Church in Madras. She was a charter member of the Jefferson County Historical Society and Noble Grand Rebekah Lodge #229. She was also a member of the Mt. View Hospital Auxiliary where she worked many hours in the thrift store.

She enjoyed reading and cooking.

Survivors include her two nephews, Jack Watts of Madras and Lynden Watts of Bellevue, Wash.; and two nieces, Caryl Drain of Bellingham, Wash., and Donna Stadler of Sisters.

She was preceded in death by her husband and three brothers.

Memorial contributions may be made to Madras First Christian Church or a charity of one’s choice.

William ‘Bill’ R. Smith

April 22, 1928 Sept. 16, 2001

William ”Bill” R. Smith of Albany died Sunday of natural causes. He was 73.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Cemetery Block 16.

Mr. Smith was born April 22, 1928, in Coos Bay. He married Patricia in Coos Bay.

He worked on tugs boats. He then served in the U.S. Army until 1948.

Mr. Smith married Jeannie.

He worked as a log scaler for the Columbia River Log Scaling Company until he retired in August of 1990. He married Dorothy in Reno, Nev.

Mr. Smith was a member of the American Legion of Albany and Elks Lodge. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling and painting.

Survivors include his wife of Albany; two stepsons, A.J. Chappell of Port Orchard, Wash., and Bruce Chappell of Oakley, Calif.; four daughters, Shelly Smith of Vancouver, Wash., Penny Gutierrez of Albany, Kelly Jacks of North Albany and Katy Higgins of Lebanon; four stepdaughters, Janice McCoy of Bonanza, Beth Highsmith of Bend, Linda King of Diamond Springs, Calif., and Lois Vaughan of Virginia; one sister, Patricia Edwards of Bend; seven grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchildren; and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his second wife, parents and one son.
