John E. Bergsma

John E. Bergsma of Alfalfa died Dec. 2 of natural causes. He was 84.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Alfalfa Community Hall.
Mr. Bergsma was born April 12, 1917, in Grand Rapids, Mich., to Karst and Sadie (Kamp) Bergsma.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Alaska. In the Army he became an expert marksman.
Mr. Bergsma worked as a contractor. He also worked in a mill. He then owned and operated a Shorthorn dairy. He moved to Lower Bridge in 1980 and started a hay farm. He then moved to Alfalfa in 1989 and farmed.
He was affiliated with several churches throughout his life and helped build the Camp Creek Church. He enjoyed farming and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his companion, Patty Waters of Alfalfa; one son, Karst of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one daughter, Lisja of Kelso, Wash.; one brother, Ken of Grand Rapids, Mich.; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, sister and grandson.
Memorial contributions may be made to a local charity of one’s choice to buy stuffed animals for needy children.

Donald Eugene Rabe

Donald Eugene Rabe of Terrebonne died Oct. 19 of natural causes. He was 83.
No service will be held.
Mr. Rabe was born Jan. 3, 1918, in Englewoon, Colo. He married Alison Brock on Nov. 4, 1939, in New York City.
He worked as an artist and painter. He moved to Central Oregon in 1965. He won many awards for his photography, both locally and regionally.
Mr. Rabe was a member of the Central Oregon Arts Association and Prineville Camera Club.
Survivors include his daughter, Christine Rabe Seger of Tucson, Ariz.; and one brother, John, of Denver.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
