The U.S. Department of Agriculture is planning to host a series of public meetings on proposed amendments to the Northwest Forest Plan. The meetings will be held across Northern California, Oregon and Washington over the next six weeks.
In Central Oregon, a meeting is scheduled for Feb. 13 at the Sisters Fire Station (301 S. Elm St., Sisters) at 5:30 p.m.
The meetings are designed to help the public learn about and comment on the Northwest Forest Plan Draft Environmental Impact Statement released in November.
The amendment addresses wildfire resilience, economic opportunities, improved forest stewardship, adaptation to climate change, and tribal inclusion. The sessions will include alternatives outlined in the draft and how to engage in the 120-day public comment period.
The Northwest Forest Plan is federal land management policy designed to protect threatened and endangered species while also contributing to social and economic sustainability in the region, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
