A Sisters man fought off three attacking dogs Thursday on U.S. Forest Service land southwest of Sisters, defending himself and his own dog with a knife and killing two of the attacking dogs, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.

The third dog was seriously injured and was later euthanized after being located at a nearby homeless encampment.

The man, identified as Ty Godfrey, 44, had just exited his vehicle near U.S. Forest Service Road 1505 when the dogs charged at him, according to the sheriff’s office.

Godfrey and his dog both suffered minor puncture wounds and received medical care. Deputies determined his actions were justified.

The dogs belonged to Denise Peiffer, 56, who was living at a nearby homeless camp, authorities said. She was cited for three counts each of having an animal at large and animal nuisance.

Deputies had received previous reports of aggressive dogs in the area, the sheriff’s office said.
