The Bend Bikeway Project — a proposal to establish north-south and east-west bicycle routes in the city — is opening its doors to the public for planning review and comments.
An open house for the city bike project is scheduled for Feb. 29 (5 p.m. to 7 p.m.) in Bend at the Municipal Court Building, 555 NE 15th St. The event will be an opportunity for the public to become acquainted with the project through displays and presentations by project organizers.
Information at the open house is also available on the city’s website. Interested individuals can view the exhibits and share feedback in a survey. Responses will be accepted until March 6.
The Bend Bikeway Project intends to make it possible for bicycle riders to cross the city on two wheels while being safely separated from traffic. Some existing bike lanes will be incorporated into the bike path. The project has a budget of $2.37 million.
Portions of the routes are expected to be complete by the fall of 2025.
The city is encouraging the public to comment on the bike routes and in particular wants to hear what sections are considered unsafe and what design elements should be prioritized. Members of the public can review planning documents and take the survey by visiting bendoregon.gov/bendbikeway.
