Paula Dreyer to offer ‘Piano Flow Live’ Saturday night at Meissner Sno-park

Attention snowshoers and cross-country skiers: Live piano music courtesy of ivory-tickler Paula Dreyer is coming to one of your favorite places, Virginia Meissner Sno-park, at 6 and 8 p.m. Saturday.

Beneath towering, snow-draped pines of Deschutes National Forest, Dreyer will twice perform her one-hour program “Piano Flow Live” at the sno-park located about 12 miles up Cascade Lakes Highway west of Bend.

Attendees can choose their own adventure, either relaxing and listening in the lodge a stone’s throw from the parking lot, or procuring headphones and get moving on trails, which will be lighted by candles. Headphones can be reserved in advance and are limited in quantity. Dreyer told The Bulletin via email that headphones for her 6 p.m. show are already accounted for but are still available for 8 p.m.

“The concept of ‘Piano Flow Live’ came to me while I was cross-country skiing at Meissner on a beautiful, sunny afternoon. I envisioned people blissed out skiing while listening to my concert,” Dreyer said. “There’s something about the flowing, rhythmic motion of cross-country skiing while being surrounded by beautiful nature that combines so perfectly with live piano music.”

After getting the green light from the Meissner’s board president and procuring a Bend Cultural Tourism Grant, the concerts came to be.

Saturday, Dreyer will play “a mix of mesmerizing, flowing compositions as well as transportive improvisations and beautiful covers,” she said.

“I often enjoy adding a classical piece to the mix. I have a classical background, and my interests have expanded to include composition and improvisation. Really, I love playing anything that moves me and moves others as well,” she said.

“I get a lot of satisfaction connecting people through music. I feel like I have done my job well if at least one person can access their inner landscape and leave the concert feeling a little lighter. Music should aim straight towards the heart center and is an energetic exchange between the performer and the audience members.”

Tickets are available at Dreyer’s website, pauladreyer.com, with a link to donate and help fund Dreyer’s project. However, she said, anyone can show up on the spot and either listen in the lodge or ask for any remaining headphones.
