Tsunamis, sneaker waves and the power of the ocean will be the theme of an Oregon State University-Cascades Science Pub event scheduled for April 16 in Bend.
Pedo Lomonaco, a civil engineer with Oregon State University’s O.H. Hinsdale Wave Research Laboratory, will deliver the informal presentation. He’ll break down the science of how waves are generated, the hazards waves present to people and their potential to generate energy.
Lomonaco will also explain the research conducted at Hinsdale Laboratory, where scientists and engineers use models and machines to understand how waves interact with the coast and structures along the water.
The Science Pub is scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. at the Edward J. Ray Hall at OSU-Cascades. The event is $22 per person and includes a light meal before the lecture. To register, visit osucascades.edu/event-registration. Space is limited to 120 attendees.
