- Author Sandy Grubb will be signing copies of her new book "Just Like Click" Saturday afternoon at Roundabout Books in Bend.
Central Oregon readers and bookworms are in luck this week. From book clubs to author readings, there are a variety of book events to choose from.
Roundabout Books will have local author Karen Spears Zacharias talk her new book. A group will discuss Eric Nguyen’s debut novel. Children’s author Sandy Grubb will be signing copies of her children’s novel set at Black Butte Ranch. And fantasy author Shauna C. Murphy will be at Paulina Springs Books in Sisters for a reading, Q&A, book-signing and meet-and-greet.
”No Perfect Mothers”

Zacharias, who is the author of “Mother of Rain” and “The Murder Gene,” focuses on women and justice in her writing. Her new book, “No Perfect Mothers,” tells the story of Carrie Buck who loves much about her hometown, just not her home. Put into foster care as a young child, Carrie is mistreated by her guardians and others as the book explores characters and the history of inmate sterilization in U.S. Supreme Court case Buck v. Bell.

Virtual Book Discussion — “Things We Lost to the Water”
As part of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the group will read and virtually discuss Eric Nguyen’s novel “Things We Lost to the Water,” a coming-of-age story about an immigrant Vietnamese family who settles in New Orleans and struggles to remain connected.

Book Signing with Sandy Grubb
Grubb will talk about her debut middle-grade book, “Just Like Click.” The illustrated novel tells the story of Nick Townley who has lived all of his 11 years at Black Butte Ranch in Central Oregon. Threatened by a move away, Nick steps off the comic book pages he creates and sneaks into the night to save his home and his father’s job.

In Person with Fantasy Author Shauna C. Murphy
Murphy will visit Paulina Springs Books to give a reading from her new fantasy novel, “Animalia,” with time for a Q&A time and a chance to meet and have books signed.
“Animalia” is set on an icy peninsula near the Arctic at the prestigious and secretive Svalbard School, where select students from around the world are taught the secrets of the Victorian-era world. There, 13-year-old Sunday Gråe wants to follow in her late father’s footsteps and learn the way of working with animals’ unique abilities — Animalia.
