EUGENE — Over the next two weekends, Hayward Field will be abuzz once more as it welcomes the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials. While the vast majority of athletes participating have competed at Hayward before in both collegiate and professional events, a select group once called the historic venue home.
Six current Oregon Ducks will compete at the trials, fresh off the NCAA championships earlier this month. And across a wide range of events, 23 former Ducks will make the pilgrimage back to Eugene with their eyes fixated on a ticket to Paris.
The group of current Ducks is headlined by junior Jaida Ross, the NCAA record-holder and national champion in the shot put.
Ross is joined on the women’s side by sprinter Jadyn Mays, high jumper Cheyla Scott, triple jumper Ryann Porter and hammer thrower Shelby Moran. The Ducks men will have Elliott Cook as their lone representative in the 1,500 meters.
