Camps and events for kids to check out this summer in Central Oregon

Roundabout Books, in Bend’s Northwest Crossing neighborhood, hosts a storytime for children 0-5 years old every other Wednesday morning.

Now that school’s out for summer, there are no shortage of camps and events for kids and their families.

Explore LGBTQ+ literature available at the Downtown Bend Public Library. Meet with other kids and teens who have lost a loved one. Make a controller game at a local library branch. And share stories at Roundabout Books.

Camp Courage

This three-and-a-half-day camp provides children and teens with a safe and fun place to express, share and explore their feelings and issues related to the death of a loved one. Campers will break into smaller peer groups to share and have an opportunity to create personal artwork to express their grief and allow them the opportunity to celebrate and memorialize the loved one who has died. There will also be outdoor games and activities. Space is limited.

Monday through Wednesday 9 a.m.-3 p.m.; free; Hanai, 62430 Eagle Road, Bend; clearmourning.org or 541-668-6494.

Makey Makey Exploration

The Deschutes Public Library is hosting workshops at many of its locations for kids to build their own game controllers. Josi Rogers and the Central Oregon STEM Hub will teach kids how to work with electric circuits in order to make a controller with a variety of games. Ages 8-14 years old. Supplies available for 20 participants, but siblings and families can share.
