Bend swimmers miss qualifying cut at U.S. Olympic Trials

INDIANAPOLIS — Two swimmers from Bend wrapped up their events in the U.S. Olympic Swimming Team Trials at Lucas Oil Stadium on Thursday.
Both Campbell McKean and Diggory Dillingham did not advance to the semifinals of their events as they vied to make the U.S. team for the Paris Olympics.
McKean, a soon-to-be senior at Bend’s Caldera High School, competed in the 200-meter individual medley, where he placed tied for 26th with a time of 2 minutes, 1.30 seconds.
Also on Thursday, Diggory Dillingham, a former state champion for Mountain View, competed in the 50-meter freestyle and finished 31st with a time of 22.55 seconds.
Last Saturday, McKean, who has won four state titles for Caldera, just missed being one of the 18 swimmers to advance to the semifinals in the 100 breaststroke as he finished 21st with a time of 1:01.00. McKean was the highest-placing junior swimmer in the event.
