Bend’s Colton Gale won the Oregon Cascades 100-mile trail race on Saturday, finishing in 14 hours, 36 minutes, 5 seconds.

The point-to-point race was staged on nearly all dirt singletrack from Bend to Sisters. The 100-mile run featured 10,700 feet of elevation gain, and a 50-mile route included 4,000 feet of elevation gain.

Kimberly Neely, of Mill Valley, California, finished second overall and was the fastest woman, finishing in 16:39:17. James Holk, of Portland, finished third in 16:42:45.

Bend’s Todd Simpson won the 50-mile race in 6:58:25. Hood River’s Elise Lagerstrom was the first woman across the finish line in 8:34:35.

The races included smooth, flowing singletrack in the shadow of Mount Bachelor before dropping onto some rugged terrain as runners began to descend toward Sisters. The 100-mile course consisted of 84% singletrack trails and included 13 full aid stations.

The Oregon Cascades 100 started at Pacific Crest Middle School in Bend and finished at Sisters Middle School. Gale, 33, crossed the finish line on the middle school track at just past 9:30 p.m. on Saturday. Runners were allowed 32 hours to finish the race, and 203 runners finished under the time cut, most of them running well into Sunday morning.

The 50-mile race started at Swampy Lakes Sno-park west of Bend and also finished at Sisters Middle School.

The 100-mile race is a qualifier for the popular Western States Endurance Run, a 100-mile trail run in Northern California staged each June.
