New Costco in Bend opening date set for Oct. 19

The opening of the new Bend Costco on Robal Lane has been delayed until Oct. 19 because the widening work on Robal Lane is still underway.

Initially the store was slated to open later this month, but construction at Cooley Road and Robal Lane will restrict traffic to the new location. Robal Lane between U.S. Highway 20 and Hunnell Road was scheduled for full closure Monday, according to the city’s website.

A banner announcing the opening date hangs inside the existing store in east Bend.

Costco would not provide additional details on the opening. The membership store has been quoted in the past saying the existing store on U.S. Highway 20 will close in tandem with the opening of the north-side location. The old location will be sold, according to Costco’s previous statements.

The sidewalk and roadway widening work, along with utility and frontage improvements, will take about four weeks of full closure, said Deedee Fraley, assistant engineer with the city of Bend.

“The city did not add any improvements after the fact and we are accommodating Costco by allowing a full closure of Robal,” Frailey said. “Full road closure allows them to get the work done faster.”

The new Costco store will include a gas station and a car wash in addition to its usual slate of services.

Motorists will be detoured onto Hunnell and Cooley roads, according to Bend’s online weekly road and traffic report.
