If you’re new-ish to Central Oregon — and let’s be honest, chances are decent that you are — you may not be familiar with the name The Dirtball.

And that’s OK. That’s why you’re reading this article!

The Dirtball has been skulking ‘round these parts for many years; in fact, he is one of the region’s top musical success stories. In the 2000s, he built a large fan base on the strength of his early solo albums, which featured aggressive beats, ultra-fast rapping and relatable rhymes about hanging out, turning up, throwing down and mushrooms. Lots and lots of mushrooms.

He’s kind of like the Eminem of mushrooms.

His self-made success earned him an invite into California rap-rock crew Kottonmouth Kings, and he spent most of the 2010s touring the world. He left the Kings a few years ago and in recent years has been focused on building his career as an independent artist, writing and recording in his Crook County home studio and pursuing his non-musical hobbies, such as hunting and lapidary.

A new album is in the works, he told The Bulletin last year. In the meantime, you can expect some seriously banging beats and homegrown vocal fireworks Saturday at Volcanic Theatre Pub.

The Dirtball, with J Meast, The Clumzys and DJ Mr. Porter: 9 p.m. Saturday, doors open 8 p.m., $20, Volcanic Theatre Pub, 70 SW Century Drive, Bend, volcanictheatre.com.
