- Little Cultus Lake is a small, remote lake south of Cultus Lake.
A fishing trip to Little Cultus Lake ended in tragedy for an Oregon family this week when one family member died after falling into the water.
Kent Christopher, a Hillsboro resident, was reported missing at approximately 7:35 p.m. on Monday prompting a search by Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputies, the Sheriff’s Office reported Friday.

Christopher’s father-in-law, Jim Massey, reported that his relative was missing, informing authorities they were fishing from a boat when they lost their balance and fell into the lake.
Massey said neither was able to climb back into the boat and began swimming to shore. The pair were separated while in the water and when Massey could not find Christopher on shore he searched for help. With no cell service at the lake, Massey drove to the Cascade Lakes Highway to gain cell service and contact authorities.
A search for Christopher ensued, and his body was discovered in the water with help from a drone.
Sgt. Jason Wall, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, said there is no indication of foul play, and the investigation is ongoing.
