Here are the candidates for The Bulletin’s Athletes of the Week for Oct. 21-26 as nominated by local coaches and The Bulletin sports staff.

Girls

Lucy Schuller, Bend volleyball: In two wins last week to clinch the Lava Bears’ fifth-straight league title, Schuller finished with four aces, 22 kills, 19 digs, seven blocks and a passing percentage of 2.33 (out of 3) while playing both the outside hitter and setter for the Lava Bears.

Haley Sullivan, Summit soccer: In two victories last week — a 7-0 win over Redmond on Oct. 22 and a 2-1 win over Mountain View on Oct. 25 — the senior forward scored three goals for the IMC-leading Storm.

Brooke Duey, Sisters cross-country: At the Bigfoot Classic at Alderbrook Golf Course in Tillamook, Duey ran a lifetime-best in a 5K of 19 minutes, 28 seconds to finish second overall and help the Outlaws to a second-place team finish.

Kendall Martinez, Crook County volleyball: In the final league match of the season against Gladstone on Oct. 22, the junior libero finished with six aces and was perfect on her serve-receive passing.

Nayeli Ortiz-Napoles, Caldera volleyball: In two wins last week against Summit and Mountain View, Ortiz-Napoles had a passing percentage of 2.3 (out of 3) to go along with 18 digs to help the Wolfpack clinch their first-ever playoff appearance.

Aili Mikalson, Mountain View soccer: In two matches last week against Summit and Bend High, the sophomore defender played a key role in helping the Cougars beat the Lava Bears on Oct. 22, and in a narrow 2-1 loss to Summit on Oct. 25.

Boys

Sawyer Crocker, Summit football: In the Storm’s 28-27 loss to Mountain View on Oct. 25, the senior running back carried the ball 18 times for 182 yards and two touchdowns. He also finished with 10 tackles on defense.

Carlos Hernandez, Culver football: Hernandez scored two touchdowns and rushed for 81 yards on three carries, and on defense had 9.5 tackles and one sack in the Bulldogs’ 58-12 win over Oakridge on Oct. 25. The senior running back also had 21 yards receiving to help Culver remain undefeated on the season.

Jaycob Miller, Crook County soccer: In the Cowboys’ 3-1 win over Madras to clinch the program’s first-ever conference title, the senior finished with a hat trick, scoring three goals to help Crook County finish with 11 wins on the season.
