After five Central Oregon high school football teams had a bye week, all 12 teams are back in action this week.

Friday night the six Intermountain Conference teams kick off their all-important league schedule, from which spots in the postseason are determined. Through the first month of the season, four local teams remain undefeated.

Mountain View (4-0) will try to push its regular-season winning streak to 14 games when it hosts Caldera (0-4), which will be playing its first game of the season with interim head coach Ryan Miller. The Wolfpack will technically be looking for their first win of the season after having to forfeit their only two wins of the season due to playing-time violations.

Head coach Mike Mitchell resigned amid the fallout this week.

The second undefeated IMC team, Bend High (4-0), will travel to face Redmond (2-2) in a rivalry game that spans more than a century. According to ORHSsportsrecords.com, the Panthers and the Lava Bears first played against each other in 1912, with Bend winning the first matchup 13-2 112 years ago.

Ridgeview (3-1), already with more wins through four games than it had all of last season, will host Summit (1-3), which is coming off its first win of the season on Sept. 20 after going through a grueling nonleague schedule.

Crook County (4-0), one of the four remaining undefeated 4A teams in the state, will play its final nonleague game of the season Friday when it hosts Parkrose (1-3), before starting starting Special District 5 play on the road next week against Ontario.

The three Central Oregon 3A teams already began their Special District 3 schedule last week and will continue this week. Madras (2-2), winners of two straight games and having already eclipsed last year’s win total, will travel to face Creswell (1-3) on Friday, and La Pine (0-4) will host Harrisburg (0-4). Sisters (3-1) played at Cottage Grove (4-0) Thursday evening.

In 2A action, Culver (4-0) will put its undefeated record to the test when it travels to face Lowell (3-1) in a battle between the top two teams in Special District 5.

Friday afternoon, 1A Gilchrist (2-2) will play at Powers in 6-man football action.
